My camera will not open or focus. What should I do?

First identify whether this is a connection or focus problem and whether you are using a webcam or DSLR. Each case needs different checks.

  1. If the camera will not open, check the USB cables and connectors and confirm that the camera model is compatible with your app and operating system.
  2. On a DSLR, disable automatic shutdown or power saving so the camera does not turn off during use.
  3. For a Canon connected directly by USB to PhotoFun Capture on Windows, uninstall EOS Webcam Utility if it is installed, as it may cause conflicts. This applies specifically to the direct connection in the app; browser capture is a different workflow.
  4. If a webcam is not focusing, adjust its settings in the manufacturer’s app.
  5. On a DSLR, prefer AF (autofocus). If autofocus does not work, use MF (manual focus) and focus at the distance where the participant will stand.
  6. Mark the participant’s position on the floor to keep the same distance from the camera and maintain focus. Take a test photo at that position before continuing.
  7. Connecting external cameras to Android or iOS devices may work in some configurations, but PhotoFun does not officially support or recommend it. This does not refer to the phone or tablet’s built-in camera.
